EU will introduce COVID-passport for safe-tourism

The document, named COVID-passport, will be valid in all 27 EU states and allow to track people suspected of coronavirus disease as well as their contact persons.

The European Union Ministers of Tourism, due to the coronavirus pandemic, undertook to develop a single document for the tourism industry, that is the COVID passport.

According to the Croatian Minister of Tourism, Gary Capelli, the European Commission has adopted general principles for the establishment of an interim Fund for the industry re-establishing with an expenditure of 20-25%. The same percentage of European tourism should be received in the future, until 2027.

The representative of the European Commission referred to the fact that tourism holds 10 % of the EU’s GDP and provides jobs for almost 12 % of all workers in the European Union.

Capelli also spoke about the COVID passport, a novelty of the EU. The document would be in force in all EU Member States and suppose to facilitate the tracking of suspects and contact persons.

The Sicilian authorities are also developing an internal strategy for re-establishing tourism. Here, after the pandemic ends, they will create vouchers to provide a significant discount for travelers.
